Nike and video game maker EA Sports have announced a partnership to introduce exclusive virtual assets from Nike’s web3 marketplace, Swoosh, into upcoming EA Sports titles. This marks the first time that Nike’s Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) will be incorporated into video game titles. Players will be able to purchase the digital items to customize their in-game character avatars.
Our Force 1 Release
In November 2022, Nike introduced its .swoosh NFT platform which launched its first collection – Our Force 1 – in early 2023. During this launch over 92,000 NFTs were revealed through an airdrop followed by the selling of digital shoe boxes that contained digital sneakers. Since December 2021, data from Dune Analytics shows that this release has generated over $186 million for Nike.
EA Sports Games
EA sports portfolio includes top-rated games such as FIFA, Madden NFL, and NBA Live which attract millions of gamers worldwide. It is anticipated that these games with feature wearable add-ons purchasable by players using the NFTs collected on Swoosh platform.
Andrew Wilson’s Interest In NFTs
CEO Andrew Wilson has previously acknowledged their potential in shaping the industry’s future which makes it unsurprising that he would accept integrating Nike’s NFTs into EA Sports games as a significant step towards broader adoption of cryptocurrencies and NFTs within the gaming industry at large.
